Ohhhhh yeeeeaaaahh, it’s time for the Oh Yeah protein bar review! We’ve all seen the commercials: Hungry? Grab a Snickers! Well I propose an alternative: Why grab a sugary candy bar that’s going to make you look soft, when you can get all the same taste in the Oh Yeah Protein Bar! Seriously, this bar is delicious. The taste is extremely similar to that of an actual Snickers bar or Payday, only its actually pretty darn good for you as well. This bar has been on the market for a while, and has withstood the test of time. And with such a delicious taste that is backed up by a solid nutrient profile, it’s no wonder why.

Taste – 5 out of 5

The layers of this bar are as follows: gooey protein center, followed by a sweet caramel like layer, lots of peanuts, and a thin sugary outer coating all around. The taste is just as good as it sounds from the description: amazing! It is very thick, very chewy, and very rewarding. This is the type of protein bar that you will actually look forward to eating, not the kind you dread and look for excuse not to eat. It tastes just like a Snickers or Payday candy bar. If you really don’t like peanuts or god forbid, you are allergic to them, then this bar isn’t for you. It’s LOADED with peanuts.

Ingredients and Nutritional Value – 4 out of 5

Because of all the peanuts in this bar, it is a little high in fat with 14 grams – however, peanuts are an extremely high quality source of fat, and burned readily as energy. The only problem is there is somehow, of these 14 grams of fat, there are also 9 grams of saturated fat. All the fat in the world, as long as it’s from peanuts, wouldn’t be that bad, but there is fat coming from something else in here. If you watch how much fat you consume the rest of the day, then this won’t be a big problem, but still, I would have like to have discovered less saturated fat.

Not only is this bar packed with peanuts, but protein and fiber as well – 28 grams of protein and 5 grams of fiber! This is very good and the bar scores a lot of points here. You won’t find many protein bars on the market that that much of either. There’s 11 grams of sugar which is okay, could have been just a tad lower, but oh well, it’s not bad, and this is probably how they make it taste so darn good.

The Bottom Line – 4 out of 5

The payday bar is priced roughly around the mid tier as far as protein bars prices, which is fair considering what you get. The bar is pretty hefty at 370 calories, so it will definitely hold you over. No need to combine this bar with a banana or anything, unless you’re in serious need of extra calories because you’re trying to bulk up or something. With a great nutrition profile, amazing taste, and fair price, you can’t go wrong with the Oh Yeah! Protein bar.

The original Cliff Bar is one the very first protein bar/meal replacement bars ever, and it has withstood the test of time for good reason. It’s great taste, excellent nutrition profile, and low price has made it a great choice for eating healthy on the go. The only criticism it received was that many complained the original Cliff Bar did not contain enough protein for the serious bodybuilder to cut it as a solid meal replacement. This has all changed with the new Cliff Bar Bodybuilder Protein Bar, which has solved that problem with 20 grams of high quality protein per bar.

Taste – 5 out of 5

This protein has several layers. The outside is thin chocolate coating, then there is a soft, chewy protein blend on the top that sort of resembles caramel, and finally a crunchy bottom layer consisting of rolled oats and soy crisps. The taste is amazing; this is one of the best tasting protein bars on the market. It tastes a little bit like a Nestles Crunch Bar because it is chocolatey and crunchy, but it also has a creamy/chewy component that a Nestles Crunch Bar doesn’t have. Trust me, you will not easily find a better tasting protein bar than this one – I’ve tried them all, and this one is tough to beat.

Ingredients and Nutritional value – 5 out of 5

The Cliff Bar Bodybuilder Protein Bar’s great taste is only matched by its amazing nutritional value. Not only is this bar one of the best tasting bars, it is also one of the healthiest. It is not too high in fat, has 4 grams of fiber, 20 grams of protein, and the sugars in this bar are all natural sources from fruit, not refined sugar, so they do not have a negative impact on blood sugar. And just like the original, non bodybuilder version of the Cliff Bar, it contains rolled oats, which is an excellent source of complex carbohydrates. Also, as an added bonus, there is also decent vitamin and mineral blend in there as well, with 100% RDA of Vitamin C and E. And because this bar is so natural and does not contain any sugar alcohols, it does not cause upset stomach and/or diarrhea that certain people with sensitive stomachs experience when they eat certain protein bars.

The Bottom Line – 5 out of 5

Not only is the Cliff Bar Bodybuilder Protein Bar both delicious and nutritious, but it also comes at a very low price. How can you beat that? There isn’t really much else to say here, this bar excels in all three categories – taste, ingredients and nutritional value, and price. ‘Nuff said. Go out and buy a box now, your taste buds, muscles and wallet will all thank you!

Ever since BSN came out with their wildly popular product “NO-XPLODE” in the early 2000’s, they have taken the supplement industry by storm, establishing themselves as very well known and respected brand. Around roughly 2006, they added another successful product to their line – the “Syntha-6” weight gainer/protein shake. BSN has now introduced the Syntha-6 protein bar, and unsurprisingly, just like their other products, it is an overall very high quality product that will not disappoint.

Taste – 5 out of 5

This bar, like many other protein bars, comes in layers. The layers, starting from the outside in, go as follows: Chocolate and peanut butter flavored coating, peanuts, caramel layer, and a chewy protein center. The taste is absolutely delicious. It tastes very much like a Snickers candy bar – equally delicious, but thicker and more chewy, and you will need some water to wash it down. It takes a lot of chewing to get this bar down, as you would expect from a big bar such as this one (370 calories total). Overall, this is one of the best tasting protein bars on the market, making this a health/protein bar you actually look forward to eating.

Ingredients and Nutritional Value – 4 out of 5

This bar has a very good nutrition profile – 370 calories, 12 grams of sugar, 30 grams of high quality protein, 1 gram of fiber – but the only problem was that it was a little high in fat, particularly saturated fat. There are 12 grams of fat total, with 7 coming from saturated fat. Also, some could make the argument that the sugar content is just a tad bit too high as well, but 12 is still pretty low – but heck, some sugar is needed to make this bar taste so delicious, so I cut them some slack on that. The protein also comes from VERY high quality sources as well: Whey protein isolate, milk protein isolate, micellular casein, and egg white protein. Some bars skimp on quality in this field, but BSN really over-delivered here.

The Bottom Line – 4 out of 5

BSN’s Sythna-6 Protein Bar is a great choice for anyone trying to pack on lean mass, or just looking for a healthy snack to bring along with them to avoid unhealthy temptations on the go, such as fast food. It has a whopping 30 grams of high quality protein that comes from great sources, is fairly low in sugar, and tastes absolutely delicious – although it was unfortunately a bit too high in fat, especially saturated fat. But hey, it is one of the best tasting protein bars on the market, tasting just like a Snickers candy bar, so we somewhat can forgive them for that. The bar is big at 370 calories, an entire meal in bar form. The price is fair for what you are getting, while it may be more expensive than some other bars, you certainly know where the extra money went – it is a big bar, with very high quality ingredients. In short, the BSN Syntha-6 protein bar will not leave you disappointed, in either taste or nutrition.

The Met Rx Big 100 Protein Bar is quite a hefty meal replacement bar ideal for someone trying to gain muscle. The bar packs quite a lot of calories, 370 to be exact, and is definitely a full meal in and of its self. Met Rx is a company that has been around for quite some time and has made quite a name for themselves in the supplement industry, and this bar continues to uphold their overall solid reputation.

Taste – 3 out of 5

As I mentioned earlier, The Met Rx Big 100 Protein Bar is quite a hefty bar. It is big, heavy, chewy and thick, but plenty moist, although you will still need a full glass of water to wash this baby down. The flavor reviewed in the video is chocolate chip cookie dough, although this bar does NOT taste that much like real cookie dough, unfortunately. You can sense the protein powder in this bar – not just in the taste, but it actually feels powdery in your mouth, texture-wise. And it is nowhere near as sweet and delicious as real cookie dough. However, this is a health bar, after all, so we shouldn’t expect it to taste like real cookie dough. As far as health/protein bars goes, this is definitely not the best protein bar I’ve ever tried, but at the same time, it definitely isn’t the worst. The powdery texture and lack of sweetness were the two main factors that held this protein bar back, and I also found it a little too thick for my taste. Thus, I rated it a 3 out of 5 in the taste category.

Ingredients and Nutritional Value – 4 out of 5

The Met Rx Big 100 Protein Bar is very high in protein, containing 28 grams total in a high quality blend consisting of whey protein, milk protein, and egg white protein. These are very high quality sources with a high BV (biological value) that our body can actually use, better than what a lot of other companies use for their sources of protein. The bar is also pretty low in fat, containing only 6 grams total, and just 2.5 grams of saturated fat. As an added bonus, this bar includes 2 grams of fiber, as well as a very good vitamin and mineral blend. However, this bar does contain quite a bit of sugar, 25 grams. For someone who is purely looking to gain weight, this is not necessarily such a bad thing, especially if they watch their sugar intake for the rest of the day. However, if the goal is fat loss, this may not be the best option, as 25 grams of sugar is a bit much.

The Bottom Line – 3.5 out of 5

This is a decent choice for anyone looking for a hefty bar and is looking to pack on the weight/muscle. It may not be ideal of strict dieters looking to cut or lose weight, as it is a bit high in sugar. Also, I personally was not a huge fan of the taste, but that varies a lot from person to person. Try this bar out, and if you like the taste, by all means, go with it. Just be sure to take it easy on the sugar in the rest of your meals.

Chef Jay’s Tri-O-Plex Cookies are delicious high protein treat, and make an interesting addition to the world of protein bars, meal replacements, etc. It’s not really a protein bar, but rather it comes in the form of two delicious cookies. They come in cute little packages in several different flavors including chocolate chip, caramel apple, cranberry white, double chocolate chip, oatmeal raisin, and peanut butter chocolate chip, all of which are delicious (the regular chocolate chip flavor is the flavor used in the video review).

Taste – 5 out of 5

The cookies taste just like an actual chocolate chip cookie, especially for those of us who are health conscious and used to eating protein bars and other types of meal replacements, the added protein powder does not negatively affect the taste at all. This product is basically just a regular chocolate chip cookie with a scoop of protein added to the mix, and it is by far the best tasting “protein bar” (or high protein snack, whatever) that I have ever eaten. Like I said before, it tastes just like a regular chocolate chip cookie, you can’t taste the protein powder at all, even though it does actually have quite a bit, 20 grams (10 per cookie).

A bit High in Sugar, However…

The great taste can be attributed to the fact that this high protein treat is also a bit high in sugar, 22 grams. For the typical ectomorph hard gainer, or in layman’s terms, someone who is naturally thin and has trouble gaining weight, this should not be a big deal. While the fairly high sugar content may cause a bit of a spike in blood sugar, adding some complex carbohydrates to the mix, such as a banana, vegetables, brown rice, etc., will lower the glycemic index of the entire meal, so the negative effects of the sugar will be greatly reduced. If you watch the sugar you eat throughout the day, this won’t hurt you at all. Plus, some of the sugar comes from honey, which does not have a negative impact on blood sugar like refined sugars do.

Chef Jay’s Tri-O-Plex Cookies may not be ideal, however, for those gain fat easily (endomorph). The sugar content may be a bit too high for people with this body type. Again, mixing these cookies with some complex carbohydrates will greatly reduce the negative impact. However, if you are on a strict diet with your main goal being maximum weight loss, not gaining muscle, and especially if you are trying to watch your carbs, this may not be the best product for you.

Ingredients and Nutritional Value – 4 out of 5

Lots of protein bars are packed with a long list of ingredients, and sometimes, you don’t really know exactly what you’re eating. Chef Jay’s Tri-O-Plex Cookies do not fall into this category. The list of ingredients is quite short: Chocolate Chips (Sugar, Chocolate, Cocoa Butter, Milkfat, Soy Lecithin, Natural Flavors), CJ Protein Blend (Soy Protein Isolate, Whey Protein Isolate), Unsalted Butter, Sugar, Honey, White Wheat Flour, Water, Brown Sugar, Eggs, Vanilla Extract, Baking Soda, Salt, Potassium Sorbate.

This is why this product scores extra points with me. It is a simple, honest product. You know exactly what you’re getting, it’s right there, summed up in a concise list of ingredients. Again, you’re basically getting a chocolate chip cookie with a little less sugar, and LOT more protein. There are no sugar alcohols or anything like that in this product, so it will not leave you with an upset stomach, as some people do not tolerate sugar alcohols well.

The Bottom Line – 4 out of 5

Go out and try this product, you will not regret it, I promise you. Even for those of us on a strict diet, most of us allow ourselves a cheat meal, or even a cheat day, every once in a while. There is even evidence to support this can be very beneficial in keeping your metabolism burning fast, as often times our metabolism can slow down in response to the reduced calories our body gets with hardcore dieting. And Chef Jay’s Tri-O-Plex Cookies don’t even really count as a full on “cheat meal”. They are packed with protein, bear a simple list of high quality ingredients, and yes, contain 22 grams of sugar; but hey, it’s not THAT much, especially if you watch what you eat for the rest of the day. You can try to eat these with breakfast, the one time of day when your body can actually use some sugar, and add in some complex carbohydrates to reduce the negative impact on blood sugar (which leads to fat storage).

The bottom line: Chef Jay’s Tri-O-Plex Cookies are a delicious way to get 22 grams of high quality protein, anytime, anywhere, if you can deal with the sugar.
